About Our Speaker
Ken Hodges, Candidate for State Attorney General
Ken Hodges is a candidate for the state's Chief Prosecutor and Law Enforcement Officer. After graduating from law school at the University of Georgia, Hodges worked at an Atlanta law firm for a couple years before deciding to go back to his hometown Albany, Georgia where he ran as District Attorney in 1996 beating an incumbent with 65% of the vote. Ken Hodges served as District Attorney for 12 years and was re-elected in 2000 and 2004 by wide margins. It was in his hometown courthouse where Hodges stood at the prosecutor's table hundreds of times helping to protect Georgians.
Ken Hodges is known across the State for his leadership. He served as President of the Georgia District Attorney’s Association and in 2002 was given the prestigious honor of being recognized as Georgia’s District Attorney of the Year. He has also chaired the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council (PAC), and is a Fellow of the Lawyer’s Foundation of Georgia.
He is a graduate of Leadership Albany and Leadership Georgia, and was on the Board of Trustees for Leadership Georgia. He has been listed on Georgia Trend Magazine’s “40 under 40” and the Fulton County Daily Report’s “Attorneys on the Rise.” Hodges was born and raised in Albany, Georgia and went on to receive his bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Sociology from Emory University in 1988 and his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1991.
NON-IVY GUEST POLICY
As agreed at our September 2008 breakfast, those who are not affiliated with an Ivy League institution are welcomed to attend as guest of an Ivy League member who must be in attendance. The non-Ivy guest policy is under review. Any comments or concerns should be directed to Matt Bolch at mbolch@mindspring.com
PRE-REGISTRATION POLICY
If an attendee has pre-registered but is unable to attend on the morning of the event, they will receive a credit to be used at any subsequent breakfast within one year. Our agenda is as follows.
- 7:30 Kickoff
- 7:35 Who's Who: Brief Introductions
- 8:00 Coffee Break
- 8:10 Business-to-Business Presentations
- 8:25 Personal Development Presentation
- 8:40 Wrap-up
Here is what you can expect from each meeting:
Kickoff - We start at 7:30 AM when the chair welcomes everyone and provides a brief overview of the agenda.
Who’s Who! – This fast paced section gives everyone attending up to 90 seconds (timed) to introduce themselves. (Name, title, company, a brief description of what they do, their "unfair competitive advantage," and an indication of what would be a good lead for them.)
Coffee Break – With the average meeting having 12-20 participants, we take a ten minute break where we encourage everyone to network, and if possible, schedule some off time during the upcoming weeks to get to know each other further.
Business-to-Business Presentations – - One or two members are given 5 minutes each to present a more detailed overview of what they do. The success of these 5-minute presentations is dependent on the presenter's ability to condense the key ideas behind their work, which then gives everyone a better understanding of who might be a possible lead for them. You can be relaxed, you can be formal, you can be creative - it's up to you! Two minutes are allowed after each presentation for Q&As.
Personal Development – A speaker joins us to address the group on areas of interest, providing a more in - depth look at issues of value to everyone. Topics include Marketing Your Business, Financial and Estate Planning, Using Technology, Career Management, Legal Issues, etc. If you are interested in providing a 15-minute presentation on a topic of general interest, please contact the chair.
Wrap-Up – We conclude our meetings as close to 8:45 am as possible with announcements, upcoming schedules, and plans for our next monthly meeting. Participants are free to network after the meeting closes.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
